Walgreens and CVS Caremark Announce Transitional Drug Coverage with Evidence of Enrollment

Both Walgreens and CVS Caremark pharmacies announced this week that they will be assisting customers who may have coverage verification issues in January.
Walgreens announced Monday that it would provide up to one month of medication, with no upfront cost to patients, who can bring confirmation of their enrollment in the Health Insurance Marketplace if the pharmacy staff isn’t able to verify eligibility with the insurer. Walgreens is excluding complex therapy medications from this temporary measure.

According to a news release issued Tuesday, CVS Caremark pharmacies will assist patients with a temporary disruption of insurance coverage with a 15- or 30-day bridge supply of medication to support continuity of care. The in-store MinuteClinic medical clinics will also be providing similar flexibility for patients who may be in transition with their health care coverage.

We will continue to update our eligibility verification systems as soon as possible following enrollment processing, to achieve timely verification of pharmacy benefits for all pharmacies serving Blue Cross Customers
