September 11'th - How has it changed you?

Every year on September 11th, we remember the tragedy that unfolded on that day in 2001.  The innocent victims, that were taken.   The heroic first responders that were lost..... and the two wars that followed.   Thousands of Americans have lost their lives and millions of lives have been affected.

I remember that day like it was yesterday, casually heading to work when I received a phone call from a friend advising me of the first plane crash into the tower.   I seldom watch television, so it was a surprise to learn of it.  Even at that moment, I would not grasp the magnitude of the event until seeing the tape of the plans slamming into the buildings.  My heart sank and I could feel the terror and panic from the faces of those fleeing what we later called Ground Zero.  I remember the strong feelings of unity that immediately followed as then President Bush announced from Ground Zero that the terrorists would be brought to justice.  How proud I was to be an American Citizen and how thankful I was to the brave men and women that fought and continue to fight, so that I may continue to enjoy being an American and the privileges of such.

On this day, I take a step back to reflect and thank GOD for the people and things in my life.  Eventhough, it has been a difficult year, with the loss of my wife, I will continue to thank him for all that he has provided to me and realize, now more than ever, that life is not a guarantee.  I appreciate every day, tell "them" that I love them, I don't sweat the small stuff, I have become more patient/tolerant and practice random acts of kindness. Yes, 09/11/01 has changed my life.

I will never forget that day.  Do you remember where you were and what you were doing?  How has it changed your life?
